Hands On With Omega Speedmaster Co-Axial 311.30.44.51.01.002

Hands On With Omega Speedmaster Chronograph Co-Axial 311.30.44.51.01.002 44.25mm, this is one of the nicest watches I have owned in the Speedmaster range it unfortunately does not come under the standard Moonwatch as its a automatic not manual wind.  But this model came out a few years ago they first introduced a 42mm version around 6 / 7 years ago, and this speedmaster came from the latest version of the Planet Ocean 45mm.  The watch in a nut shell  is a Planet ocean movement 9300 put in a speedmaster 44mm case both chronograph watches around 45mm with a see through caseback so its cater for the speedy lovers with size of a Plant Ocean!!

The Speedmaster 44.25mm in stainless steel with sapphire glass and sapphire caseback with a matt black dial with date function at the bottom, the infamous Omega tachymetre bezel and comes on the newer style Speedmaster bracelet. The watch is a stunning piece great size and great presence on the wrist due to size, I have always been a sucker for Moonwatch but this one took me by surprise and bonus of automatic movement which the Moonwatch does not have.
Omega Speedmaster
The Moonwatch is thee watch of all the speedmasters cousins of cousins DNA, I would not like to say how many where produced and still being produced in the Speedmaster range that’s with without the special editions and limited editions.  But prices of Omega are getting ridiculous these days they used to be very well priced and value for the money pieces. This Speedmaster is a eye watering £5840 and the secondhand re-sale is good but not as good as the king “Rolex” which dominates every market for re-sale value and is number one brand to own and want. I love Omega but love Rolex more!!

Christie’s Auction recently on the 15th June another Paul Newman Daytona 6241 went for Half a Million dollars when the hammer fell.  The Newman phenomenon is still strong for collectors, going crazy for the these Daytona’s, sale price was $560,803 but their estimate was very conservative at $199,073 to $398,145 but smashed that figure.  The watch is 14k Yellow Gold and known as the John Player Special model rare watch dates to 1967.

The dial signed Rolex Cosmograph stunning black matte dial with applied black square numerals, tritium luminous accents, tritium luminous hands, fifth of a second divisions on sunken champagne track, three sunken champagne engine-turned subsidiary dials.

The black bezel graduates to 200 units per hour tachymetre scale, then comes on a leather strap with Rolex signed buckle. The Rolex was watch only no box or guarantee papers wow Christie’s pull the big hitters!!

Their was plenty of other watches at the auction that was also a big hit. But Vintage Rolex’s seem to hit the lime light these days and going from strength to strength. The ultimate Paul Newman Daytona 6239 is coming up for sale later on this year Mr Newman’s own personal watch is tipped to smash all record sales for Paul Newman Daytona’s ever look forward to see that!

Omega Moonwatch Moonphase ST345.0809

Posted on

This is the first Omega speedmaster Professional Moonwatch Moonphase 1985 made in limited numbers 1300 in total so makes these model very hard to find and very special these days. The Moonphase reference is ST345.0809 and it based on the standard moonwatch but with a calibre 866 and nowadays is calibre 1866 after a upgrade in 1990,s which is basically a calibre 861 with a moonphase / date module added.

This model has a clear clean caseback with the seamaster logo in the middle like many of the other seamaster models. The moonphase does not have the “first watch worn on the moon” engraved or a fancy limited edition caseback as most moon watches do have either. The moonphase was re-introduced around 1999 but with a few upgrades luminova hour markers on the dial not tritium and a modern speedmaster bracelet instead of the vintage 1450 bracelet also they used a modern tachymeter bezel with slight change with a modern font.

I have owned the new and the old moonphase and the vintage one is far better tritium dial lovely patina, and can see this being the one to have as been made in such small numbers, I think a lot of watch brands made watches in the 70,s and 80,s and never realized how nice and stunning they would be in the future.

The speedmaster will always be a loved watch by many collectors and enthusiasts and something will always go down in history as first watch watch on the the moon although there was rumors that Buzz Aldrin did have a Rolex Gmtmaster on his wrist as well as the moonwatch when on the moon, but Rolex was not bothered for the lime light.

Tudor Inside The Archives Talking Watches

Tudor Inside The Archives Talking Watches with Hodinkee a nice video, Vintage Tudor has become like vintage Rolex very very desirable in every way. In the past Tudor was the cheaper Rolex, Branded Tudor with Rolex movement, crown, case back, etc… They even did the Submariner range that was identical but says “Tudor” on the dial.  Some of the best Tudor’s watches in my opinion highly sort after and collectable the Monte Carlo range very like the Daytona in every way. Every collector should have a Tudor Monte Carlo hopefully one day I will own one. Enjoy the video!

The Omega Speedmaster Moonwatch “AKA Snoopy”

Posted on

Here we have the ultimate new edition launched at basel 2015 by Omega, The Omega Speedmaster Moonwatch “Snoopy” limited Edition to 1970 pieces in total. Everyone seems to want one but they sold in pre orders in minutes when the launched the snoopy.

This particular snoopy is a updated version the original snoopy launched 2003 to commemorate the apollo mission in 1970 which is a standard moonwatch with a snoopy caseback and picture of snoopy at 9 o clock and they made just over 5000 pieces.

The snoopy old and new have become very sort after for collectors the new one doubled in price the day people started to get them delivered current prices range for £8500 to £14000 pounds, the Rrp was £4630 seems crazy I know.  The new version has a Ceramic bezel with Sapphire anti glare glass not hesalite like the old snoopy, the movement is the manual wind 1862 cal that been used for years by Omega. The case size is slightly bigger by 2mm which all the new moon watches have grown in size.

They have kept the tachymetre the same and used super luminova on the dial to glow in the dark and comes on a nylon coated strap with deployment strap, not sure why Omega did not use a bracelet like or give you the option.  But overall a cracking piece by Omega that I am sure will be much loved in the years sadly this one is not mine but a fellow collectors.
