Richard Mille Prototype of the RM 056 soon to be up for auction Christie’s Auction house on the 21st June 2017. This is a rare watch indeed proper rad in very way features casing made of crystal with sapphire glass and a stunning Tourbillon movement which always bring high price tags. In 2012 the first RM 056 was introduced which boasted an all sapphire crystal case in the standard Richard Mille casing. It was a masterpiece in itself with no less than 800 hours machine manufacturing work.
The all sapphire case let you see the stunning slit second chronograph movement which was similar to RM 008. I suppose this is better than the see through casebacks most watch manufactures have that when the watch is on your wrist is pointless to see the movement. The casing, middle, bezel and back of the RM 056, had to be milled from solid blocks of sapphire using a diamond-tipped cutter, and the whole watch was held together by Richard Mille’s signature spline screws which are very distinct on Richard Mille timepieces. The watches basically been made up of all sapphire must be put together with great precision as one little mistake and crack!!
The complex process of making such a high level Richard Mille only made five examples of the initial Tourbillon Split Seconds Competition Chronograph RM 056 Felipe Massa Sapphire. But these sold for $1650000 So hence this is a rare watch with auction estimates of $1000000 to $15000000 which seems a good price fora prototype. I just wonder how many different ones Richard Mille can make as they all have look the same to me bar different materials, movements etc…
The Richard Mille watches are not for the faint very expensive but very well made. and loved by some on the rich and famous I doubt I will ever own one too ostentatious for me and too much money!

Phillips Auction in Hong Kong 30 May 2017 should have some really nice vintage pieces for sale it seems the world has gone vintage mad! The auction has some great pieces from Heuer, Omega, Rolex, Vacheron Constantin, Longines, Breitling, Zenith, Panerai, Bregeut, Patek Philippe and many more. These vintage watch auctions pull some top money for the right pieces as they are getting harder and harder to find in top condition box and papers and folk wanted to snap the top pieces what ever the cost.
I was never into vintage watches was always in to modern pieces till about 5 years ago, but then I realized how nice it is with aged patina and matt dial etc…..and just simple the simple fact the watch had be worn and loved rather than stored in box. But unfortunately you need pockets these days to buy them vintage pieces from top the names and I mean deep deep pockets. The Paul Newman Daytona 6363 was may be around £300 in the 1970,s some these days fetching over a million dollars. Any thing Paul Newman or Steve Mcqueen wore are timeless classics only going one direction in price and people know this. This Rolex Daytona 6263 did a staggering over $3 million!!
Take a look at some of the lots at auction some stunning pieces.
As the title says Thirteen Rolex Military Submariners of Grahame Fowler fantastic historic watches by Rolex that every collector would love to own one including myself.
Prices become silly on these in recent times topping £100.000 most collectors bought them when folk did not know what the watch was worth and most likely inherited. I know a chap who bought a few in the 1990,s for around £10.000 each and he has a nice collection too.
The watch was made for the ministry of defence and Rolex back in the 1950,s was the leading Brand on dive watches so no brainer to supply the divers in WW2 with A military Submariner. They wanted the watch to be different to the commercial Submariner hence the Mil Sub, at that time they wanted fixed spring bars and nato strap not steel oyster bracelet. This model was made in small numbers and is a piece that will stamped in the history of the finest Military collectible watch ever made. Enjoy the video!
Tudor Inside The Archives Talking Watches with Hodinkee a nice video, Vintage Tudor has become like vintage Rolex very very desirable in every way. In the past Tudor was the cheaper Rolex, Branded Tudor with Rolex movement, crown, case back, etc… They even did the Submariner range that was identical but says “Tudor” on the dial. Some of the best Tudor’s watches in my opinion highly sort after and collectable the Monte Carlo range very like the Daytona in every way. Every collector should have a Tudor Monte Carlo hopefully one day I will own one. Enjoy the video!
