Tudor Inside The Archives Talking Watches with Hodinkee a nice video, Vintage Tudor has become like vintage Rolex very very desirable in every way. In the past Tudor was the cheaper Rolex, Branded Tudor with Rolex movement, crown, case back, etc… They even did the Submariner range that was identical but says “Tudor” on the dial. Some of the best Tudor’s watches in my opinion highly sort after and collectable the Monte Carlo range very like the Daytona in every way. Every collector should have a Tudor Monte Carlo hopefully one day I will own one. Enjoy the video!
A small collection of Panerai watches I have always liked Panerai’s they are a great versatile piece, which are a nice chunky watch do not tend be small by any means. The striking feature of the Panerai luminor range is the Luminosity on the dial of the hour markers and numbers. The group picture of them all together!
Top left Panerai 00212, Panerai 00090, far right Panerai 00114 bottom Panerai 00171
The first one in the collection is Panerai Luminor 00212 1950 Flyback Chronograph is great watch 44mm case but wears a lot bigger, it has the 1950 style Panerai case with the in-famous crown guard that is Panerai’s trademark and very distinctive.
The glass is domed and is just looks stunning and has a tachymeter on outer inner dial for measuring time to speed on the chronograph when doing lap times.
The flyback function allows you to start the chronograph stopwatch going and with the lower button which normal resets the chronograph back to 12 it allows split second multiple timing. This model is water resistant to 100m all the other ones in the pictures are 300m as most Panerai’s are.
The see through case back with Panerai’s beautiful in house Automatic Cal OP XIX an absolutely stunning piece overall with Panerai’s easy strap changing system on deployment. Some more pictures of the beast!
Next up is the Panerai Luminor 00090 this one is in a 40mm case in stainless steel and housed in the standard Luminor case. This has the date function at 3 o’clock with magnifier to blow up the date this is Panerai’s version of the Rolex Cyclops feature, Automatic movement with seconds hand at 9 o’clock.
The strap is stainless steel polished centre links with brushed sides on a steel deployment, This style strap is like marmite you love or hate them I am rather fond of the bracelet to be honest. A great unisex watch as my partner actual wears the 00090!
Next the Panerai Luminor 00114 White dial base model 44m manual wind movement is the a simple clean look standard panerai case and crown guard with stunning movement you can see through caseback on a leather strap. NO fuss or complicated mechanisms just wind and go.
Lastly one of my favorites Panerai Luminor 00171 Automatic Steel and Titanium Power reserve 44mm on deployment bracelet very similar to the 00090 but with titanium mixed with stainless steel and a power reserve indicator on the dial. The date function is also an addition to this model but due the materials it is very light on the wrist with great super wrist presence.
Panerai’s have been around a long time and years ago had links with Rolex another watch everyone should have in there collection for variety and versatility.
The Tourbillon Of Tourbillon Watches by Jacob and Co. This seems to defy all Tourbillon movement watches with Astronomia Tourbillon stunning watch can bare to think the cost for one!!
As the title says Rolex Gmt Master II Ref 116710BLNR AKA “Batman” long awaited for me. This piece is basically A standard Gmt Master II with Ceramic black and blue Bezel and a blue Gmt hand and recently become the watch to have! In the past the secondhand market was not that great with this model, as I felt people could not bare the thought of paying the extra £1000 for the different Colour bezel. I after admit I was one of them people 🙁
Now things have changed dramatically in the last 6 months folk are fighting for them in dealers with lists on new ones up to a 2 year waiting wow ouch! and secondhand prices soaring to get hold of one. I got to say do love the blue and black Ceramic bezel “Batman” with polished centre links on a oyster bracelet like Daytona, Yachtmaster, Milgauss, and a Maxi dial to boot which really set the watch. Most sports models adopt satin finish on the oyster bracelet.
I do think Rolex did get all the newer models right since launch around 2006 with big hour hand and big hour marker plots. This concept I think came from the Yachtmaster from memory definitely influenced from the stunning Rolex Submariner LV in 2003 when it was launched. A great looking watch overall if you can find one!
As the title says Talking watches with Howie Kendrick By Hodinkee as always they do great video with some fantastic watches from collectors around the world, with some watches to die for!
Here is little beauty Omega Speedmaster Apollo-Soyuz Meteorite Ref: 3188.8.131.52.99.001, this particular piece is the standard speedmaster Moonwatch with a meteorite dial. The dial is unique and mesmerizing in colour and this model was to commemorate Apollo-Soyuz Test Project which was to superpowers working together on landing station in orbit. The watch has sapphire crystal with cal 1861 Manual wind chrono movement, Omega speedmaster have done 100’s of editions from Limited to special editions etc…. lost count over the years I think they probably done the most out of all the Swiss brands. But this a great piece for the collection!

As the title says hands on with the new Rolex Daytona 116500LN Ceramic bezel or as Rolex say Cerachrom Bezel. This watch becoming the hardest piece on the planet to own, it has become a phenomena with waiting lists at 5 years for the white dial and fetching over RRP money to buy shocking. I would love to own one but proving difficult to own this beast, Watch Collectors everywhere want the New Daytona. Click on the link below for a full review by Hodinkee.
The Rolex Submariner LV 16610LV
As the title says one of my all time favorites in modern times The Rolex Submariner 16610LV, first launch in 2003 to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Submariner. The Submariner success spans over 50 years of a true tool divers watch and I feel this was a game changer for future Rolex sport models. This piece was not loved at first but started to be appreciated over time, the dial had big hour plots also bigger hour hand compared to the standard Submariner and a gorgeous green bezel which made the watch in my opinion. So the standard Sub model number is 16610 then they added LV on the end of the model number which stands Lunette Verte.
The Submariner is water resistant to 300m and has the Patented triple lock crown which gave Rolex they diver status back in the 1950,s, I have owned a few of this particular model in the past and this production was made in limited numbers compared to other models. The run dates from 2003 to 2010 a seven year run in total. Now in 2016 they have become very sort after for collectors and everyone it has become the one to have prices average £5000 plus to buy one considering new RRP was £2650 ouch!
Rolex sports watches from around 2006 had a new feature which came from the Submariner LV big hour plots big hands become the norm as Rolex must have decided it was the right combination. I still love them and in the years since launch I probably only seen possibly two when clock watching people’s wrists as I always do. Overall a must have in any collection and I personally feel will be a future modern collectors piece so get when one if you can.
How to Service The 234- Component Cal 1861 SpeedMaster
As the title says Hodinkee have been inside The Omega Speedmaster at Manfredi Jewels and getting all the low down on how to service a Speedmaster Cal 1861 which they use in plenty of there watches. Very articulate job servicing watches need steady hands and good eyes!!
